Sample Itinerary – Pacific Coast Tours

This is a sample itinerary for your Pacific Coast Tour in Nicaragua.  This itinerary may vary in order to accommodate changes in tides, wildlife distributions, group sizes, cultural events, and your requests.  We promise that these considerations will be made with you in mind.  We want you to have the best possible experience while you are in Nicaragua!

Day 1: We will meet you in Managua and transport you to the beautiful city of Leon.  Leon is a city of culture….open-air markets, colonial architecture, art museums, live music, poetry, the grandeur of churches, and the energy of the people. Throughout the day, you may gain insight into a culture from its sights, sounds, and smells. As the sun gets low in the sky, we will make our way to the Cerro Negro Volcano to hike the crater and enjoy the vistas and sunset.  After our first grand adventure, we will arrive at your hotel in a quiet neighborhood near Parque Central.  You may spend the rest of the evening at your leisure, unwinding in your hotel or wandering the streets imbibing the sights and sounds of Leon.

Day 2: Wake up to a light breakfast at your hotel and another adventure in Leon, before we travel to the Padre Ramos Estuary and Nature Reserve. Driving through a dry tropical landscape, we will pass by agricultural fields, volcanoes looming in the distance, and small communities.  Upon our arrival in Padre Ramos, we will dine on fresh fish before we pack our kayaks and paddle a short distance to a deserted beach for dinner and a glowing sunset. You will slumber on a sandy beach beneath the stars with only the sea and bioluminescence surrounding you.

Day 3 and Day 4: Explore the mangroves of Estero Padre Ramos and visit with parrots, ibis, herons, sea turtles, iguanas and crocodiles. Kayak a little or kayak a lot. See the ancient volcanoes in the distance. Hike to high points with spectacular vistas of the surrounding landscape or meander along the open expanse of the Pacific Ocean.  Laze in a hammock. Swim. Learn to better maneuver your kayak. Practice yoga. Read. Play bocce, frisbee, or search for concha.  Either way, you will enjoy idle time and physical activities with your friends and family.

Day 5: Enjoy one last paddle in the Estero Padre Ramos before we return to our launch site by midday.  After an ocean-side lunch in the fishing community of Jiquillo, we will travel to Granada to savor another beautiful, passionate, and creative city.  We may take a horse and cart to see the stunning scenery or enjoy dinner and a live music performance before we slumber and rest for our next day’s experience.

Day 6: Today we will visit the cloud forests of the Mombacho Volcano Nature Reserve.  We will hear howler monkeys and see fantastical, tropical birds.  The scent of tropical forest and sight of brilliant flowers and butterflies will be an incredible contrast to our latest destinations of sea and city.  We will hike leisurely for miles with local and bilingual guides to learn more about this very special, protected habitat surrounded by volcanic cones, lakes, and cinders.  In the evening, we will enjoy the activities of Parque Central before returning to the hotel for very sweet dreams.

Day 7: After breakfast and last minute souvenirs, travel back to Managua and your hometown, a well-rested, rejuvenated, and more enlightened individual.  Celebrate our time together with fond farewells, as you reminisce and savor our new friendships and memories.
